“Let’s Talk About Women’s Health: The Conversations We Don’t Always Have”

Last month, we talked about sustainability: how small, consistent habits can support your health over time. And while that conversation continues, this month we want to shift our focus to something just as important, but far less talked about: Women’s health.

Not the surface-level version we often hear about, but the real, everyday experiences that so many women quietly navigate:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Urinary leakage or urgency
  • Core weakness after pregnancy
  • Persistent low back or hip discomfort

If you’ve ever experienced any of these, you are not alone.

And more importantly, you are not “just supposed to live with it.”

There is this silent struggle that women tend to carry. One of the most surprising things we see in our clinic is how long women wait before bringing these concerns up, if they bring them up at all.

Sometimes it’s because:

  • “I thought this was normal after having kids.”
  • “No one ever asked me about it.”
  • “I didn’t know there was anything that could help.”
  • “It’s embarrassing to talk about.”

So instead, many women adapt. They stop running, avoid certain exercises, plan their day around bathroom access, and may even accept discomfort during intimacy. Over time, these adaptations can quietly shrink quality of life. The hardest part is that many women don’t realize these are treatable conditions.

Remember, your body isn’t broken! At Tandem, we want to be very clear that these symptoms are common, but they are not normal.

Your body is not failing you. It’s communicating with you.

Pelvic floor dysfunction, core weakness, and movement imbalances can all contribute to the issues listed above—and with the right guidance, they can often be improved significantly.

This is where specialized care matters.

Why Women’s Health Physical Therapy Is So Powerful

We’re incredibly excited to share that we’ve expanded our team to better support women in this area.

Women’s health physical therapy focuses on:

  • Pelvic floor coordination and strength
  • Core and deep stabilizing muscles
  • Breathing patterns and pressure management
  • Movement strategies that reduce strain and pain

But just as importantly it creates space for conversation, where:

  • You don’t feel rushed
  • You don’t feel dismissed
  • You don’t feel like your symptoms are “too small” to matter

Because they do matter.

You Deserve to Feel Strong, Confident, and Supported

Whether you’re postpartum, perimenopausal, an athlete, or simply someone who wants to move through life without discomfort, your concerns are valid.

We want Tandem to be a place where:

  • You feel safe asking questions
  • You feel heard when something doesn’t feel right
  • You feel empowered with answers and a plan

And while this month we’re highlighting women’s health, this mission extends to everyone we serve.

Starting the conversation can be pretty intimidating. If something you’ve read here resonates with you, consider this your invitation.

You don’t need to have the “perfect” words.
You don’t need to wait until it gets worse.

You can simply start with: “I’ve been dealing with something and I’m not sure if it’s normal…” That conversation alone can be the first step toward meaningful change.

As always, our goal is to meet you where you are, and help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and support. If you’ve been quietly dealing with symptoms like pelvic pain, leakage, or discomfort, we want you to know:

You’re not alone.
There is help available.
And you deserve to feel better.
