Pilates is a system of exercises that are designed to be low-impact, while staying focused on the precision, control, and the mobility of the muscles.
Typically, you’ll see a Pilates class done in a large studio with reformers and an instructor pacing the room on a mic. It can be practiced on a mat—using a series of stretches to loosen tight muscles and build strength—or on an OOV, a crescent-shaped tool that provides back support and strengthens muscles in various positions.
The great thing about Pilates is that it truly is for anyone. Older adults often report improved flexibility and independence after several sessions. Athletes incorporate Pilates into their routines to release tight muscles and enhance mobility and control, helping them perform better in their sport of choice.
Pilates is also great for those intimidated by working out, or worried about re-injury. Its low-impact nature focuses on the core, supporting muscles, and controlled, precise movements.

SMALL CLASS SIZE:
Whether you’re taking a private or group class, our small classes ensure a more personalized experience for every participant.
LONG-TERM IMPROVEMENTS:
We aim for more than just short-term relief. Learn how to improve your health and reduce pain in the long term through specific, individualized exercises guided by a licensed PT or PTA.
PRIVATE OR GROUP CLASSES:
Class size can make a big difference in both comfort and performance. Our one-on-one sessions provide a more customized experience, while our small group classes still maintain a strong sense of individual attention.
OOV CLASSES OFFERED:
The OOV (short for “Out of Vocabulary”) is a crescent-shaped device used to support spinal stability and encourage core engagement. Whether you’re sitting, lying on your back, or even crawling, the OOV is used in Pilates, physical therapy, and general fitness to enhance movement and strength.

At Tandem Physical Therapy and Pilates, classes are offered to accommodate the patient’s schedule. Whether it’s an early morning stretch class, or a private class after a long day at work, Tandem has you covered.
